About

Hi, I'm James Dalton.

A systems engineer and investor in Auckland, helping small businesses grow, run smoother and become worth more.

Engineer first.

For more than 15 years I've worked as an IT systems engineer, building and looking after systems that businesses depend on every day. That work taught me a way of thinking that applies far beyond technology: measure before you change anything, find the real cause, and build things that keep working when nobody is watching.

Most small businesses don't need more effort. They need better systems. The same thinking that keeps critical technology running can take the weight off an owner who is holding everything together by hand.

Investor second.

In 2016 I started Aberrant Capital to invest in businesses with a long-term view. Looking at businesses as an investor changes how you see them: what makes one worth more is almost always better growth, better systems and less reliance on the owner.

What I do now.

I bring those two sides together for small business owners across three areas: growth, systems and investment. I work independently, in my own name, in Auckland and remotely.

I give high-level technology guidance as part of that work, but I don't offer IT support or managed IT services.
